If you are pulled over of drinking any driving, the arresting
officer will administer field sobriety tests. These tests include
walking in a straight line and standing on one foot. They can’t prove
that you are drunk, but if you fail these tests, the officer can ask
you to submit a chemical test.
Alaska alcohol tests that give polices officers your BAC are done via
blood, urine, or breath (most commonly breath). If asked to submit a
chemical alcohol test, you must do so, or your license will be
automatically suspended. You can, however, ask for an independent
agency to do additional tests.
Law Enforcement Tip-Offs of DUI
It you’re weaving, driving without lights, or driving too slowly, a
police officer will pull you over on suspicion of drunk driving.
However, there are many places in Alaska that are targeted at as high
Alaska DUI areas. Roads around bars are highly patrolled, especially on
weekends, and some bartenders and other civilians will call police and
tip them off to drunk drivers. Getting an Alaska DUI ticket is usually
unavoidable if you get behind the wheel after drinking alcohol.
